Too often we get upset about the direction of our government, yet we stand on the sidelines and do nothing. For our values to have meaning, we must be active. We must remember: Politics is not a spectator sport! We must get in the game.
Getting involved with politics for the first time might be a little intimidating, but we encourage you to take that first step and get involved. We'll be more than happy to help you along the way. Local politics is a great learning environment. You'll have the opportunity to work shoulder to shoulder with our candidates.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our local Democratic Party. The Republicans and their big money contributors almost always outspend us, so we rely on volunteers to get our message out to voters. There are many ways you can make a difference. Some general activities are door-knocking, literature drops, making phone calls, helping at parades, assisting at events, and registering voters.
As Bruce Springsteen eloquently said at an election rally in Cleveland, "It is time to roll up your sleeves and let your passions flow in the service of a more just and equitable society."
